WHO?MAG: How did you get into rhyming?
Charlie Manhatten: Grew up listening to MC Hammer, Public Enemy, LL Cool J. After that, I started looking into record labels and I found my home here at Laid Back productions. We’ve been working ever since.

WHO?MAG: Talk to me about your new album?
Charlie Manhatten: The album, we got 17 songs on it. We’re pushing two of them right now. One is a remake of The Deele featuring Babyface. Also we got another song called “Annihilator”. We got another song called “Catch’em Rolling” that’ll appeal the south side. It’s a very versatile album. You won’t get one type of flavor.

WHO?MAG: As far as production who do you have?
Charlie Manhatten: Laid Back Productions. Chill Black and Mr. Lay have done the majority of the production. We got one feature producer named Slowburn.

WHO?MAG: How did you hook up with Babyface?
Charlie Manhatten: Actually we did a request to sample a song and he liked the song so much, he cleared it and told us to go ahead and run with it. That’s basically it. It wasn’t any hassle at all which is a good thing. On the remix of “Catch’em Rolling”, we did a remake of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”.

WHO?MAG: Since you’re from San Francisco, what’s your take on the Hyphy Movement?
Charlie Manhatten: It’s a good thing. It’s giving opportunity to a lot of people to do their thing. It’s another sound. I’m all for a good movement.
